Every food hygiene rating published for a September inspection in West Oxfordshire was a 5, from a Witney takeaway and cafe to Burford's Angel. Full list of 29.

All 29 food businesses in West Oxfordshire with a published rating from a September inspection scored the top mark of 5. None scored lower.

The list runs from a Corn Street takeaway in Witney to pubs in Burford, Charlbury and the Wychwoods, and the kitchens serving five primary schools.

The ratings come from the Food Standards Agency register, which records each inspection by West Oxfordshire District Council’s environmental health officers. We checked the register on 4 October.

What it means for you

  • A 5 means the business was found to have very good hygiene standards on the day of the inspection. It does not rate the food or the service.
  • Ratings usually reach the register a few weeks after the visit, because businesses have a right to appeal first. Some September inspections may not be listed yet, so this is not necessarily every visit made last month.
  • Any business can ask for a re-visit after making improvements, and can publish a written right to reply alongside its rating on the register.
  • To check anywhere before you eat, search the FSA register by name or postcode. Businesses in England do not have to display their sticker, so the register is the reliable place to look.

We publish the West Oxfordshire ratings each month.
